    Small Bumper Golf Side Trim

I've just bought an Aussie spec mk2 golf and am chasing up trim for her as previous owner took his off. Currently I have one set of the big bumpers arches and trim but the side skirts are stuffed, but I've also aquired some mk2 small bumpers arches which aren't as fat at the bottoms but it dosen't match the thin door trim.

Was wondering if anybody had some of the thicker door trim off small bumper golf or where to get them as i'd prefer them then the original arches as they are stuffed, Im also going to leave off the side skirts as they seem to not want to stay on (I'll probably just spray the side).

If anybody has some tips or tricks as to what I should do or any other preferences then that would be great.

I'll have a full post of the work done on this car with pics later when my internet isn't capped, cheers.

I reckon you will find that once you take those narrow side trims off you'll have holes in the doors. The wide early trims sit in a different place on the door and won't cover them IIRC.

Early trims are stick on and sit below the waist line, where the later strips sit above them.

So I've got the early trim, is it going to be a problem attaching them, will the holes be in a different spot, therefore cause a problem?

I'm a bit confused So you wanna fit the early door trims? Chunky but narrow rubbery ones with the red inlay striping?

Are there any trims on at the moment? The later trims that sit sort of in/above the lower ridge of the door attach with plug clips, therefore there are holes in the panel all along there. You'd have to get those filled by a panel shop or whatever, because the early trims mount just on the edge BELOW the ridge, and therefore will obviously leave the holes above exposed.

The lower (older) trims stick on with really sticky tape! So no holes to worry about there.

    Cheers,
    Wade

BTW dude, i'm not 100% on this, but I think all the GTI's have the black matt sill paint/covering stuff along the side sills. So once you remove the flabby big bumper side skirts it should be black underneath as per the small bumper GTI.
I'm planning on changing my big bumper setup to smalls too, and when i had a look under those 'skirts', it looked like the old style black was underneath

PS: If those small bumper arches are nice and scratch-free i'd be keen to purchase!

    Cheers

well im going to hopeful book her in for a full re-spray, so probably the best time to fill the holes, i had a feeling they were in a different spot. I've actually been following your thread Golfballs as an inspiration, as im wanting to get the small bumper look for something different.

Also the flabby side skirts have already been removed and its red, not black.
