Who has a 3m bar? Hahah
You don't need a torque wrench, you can't over-tighten them. Just turn the socket as much as you possibly can, the bearings actually last longer the tighter it is.
Use a 2 metre extension bar on the end of the socket, that usually does the trick. Plus a couple of mates to help. If you can find a 3 metre bar with a 3/4 inch drive plus corresponding socket and more mates even better.

You wouldn't be the first bloke to have "borrowed" a stop sign in order to do the axle nuts
Stop signs are really annoying to carry - they are so long you can't close the hatch and if they start to drag on the road they make an aweful noise. If you open the back windows on both sides of the car and carry the sign with it's ends sticking out it's really hard explaining to the nice policeman what you are doing.
Or so I've been told.
Ah Brings back memories of my youth.
