Hi there guys,
I have a bit of a request...
I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to make a tutorial in the forum here on removing door trim/cards on a 5 door MkII Golf.
Also, another thing that would be nice if possible would be how to replace a door handle and lock mech.
I am not an idiot in the way of trying these things out, but me and a mate tried to attack the door cards of his new MkII and got stuck at the window winder.
Could not work out how to remove it, stuck hard as hell and as you cannot see behind the card very well until it's removed makes it hard, also, due to me or him never removing a door card before.
But yeah, if someone could please do a write up on the *correct* way to remove the door inserts would be very appreciated.
Thanks you in advance,
Aaron.

hehehe, sorry i have to laugh cos the mk2 door card is so easy to remove!!! but thats not constructive, so
the mk2 winder has two parts the winder and a cover that clips onto the winder, underneath the cover is a philips head and the winder will come off. let us know if that hel
mate buy a haynes mk2 manual, I dont like bentlys but thats my preference

90 GTI Mk2 1.8t soon to be with GT28rs
the trick to mk2s: 10mm spanner, 13mm spanner, philips and flat head (medium size will do)
quite simply, there's a a little plastic/metal cover for any screw or bolt that holds on trim. remove this cover with the flathead, and undo it with the philips.
ie,
- door cards. there's the door handle cover with 2 philips screws holding it to the door.
- the window winder is much the same, but only 1 philips head screw behind the plastic cover.
- the door handle has a philips head screw behind the plastic exterior insert. or if the majority of the door handle is plastic, then the screw might be behind a shiny metal cover. there's also a big philips head on the edge of the door. these are the only two retaining the door handle.

Thanks Tom and Jay,
That helps, when I say I am not an idiot, I mean as in ..."Whats a Phillips" lol, I understand it's not difficult but that's when you know there is that little phillips there
Thats really all I needed to know, my mate looked up on the net and said there should be a collar on the inside of the card, which should unclip... so thats what I was looking for. I found the collar on the exterior of the winders but after looking over it generally must have missed the phillips screw. Must be pretty small as the collar was only maybe 5mm wide.
Thanks anyway guys.

How much did Nick pay for this car Aaron? Mine cost much less and I don't need to remove the door trim.
Sorry mate, just having a dig because I can.
Cheers and great to finally catch up yesterday.

7500 in the end.
Reason we need to pull the trim is because the rear passenger door has an issue with the central locking. The solenoid arm is missing the lock lever...
The reason why you wouldn't have the fault is no remote central locking!
haha
Anyway, was good to meet up, you have a nice place out there, very relaxing.
