    Problem after lowering

    I got myself a set of hottuning coilovers and instaled them today.

    I installed them and wound them down all the way. I have only done the front so far.

    The problem i have is, when i turn right, even slightly you can feel bumps as if there was a large lump on the tire.The faster you go the worse it is.

    I have checked everything was tight and where it was suposta be. I checked the tires and most things i could see. Its not due to rubbing of the tire on anything as far as i can see and it doesnt sound like it is rubbing. The sound is more of a pulsing thud, you can feel it more through the floor than the steering wheel. Im prity much out of ideas on what it could be. The last time i had a sound like this was when i had a ball of duct tape stuck on my tire and when i didnt tighten my wheel bolts.

    Can anyone help?

    tighten the wheels up? is everything nice and torqued up?

    you should probably go for a wheel alignment. your suspension geometry isn't going to like being 5 inches higher in the wheel arch..

    Everything is tightened up and tripple checked. My wheels where badly miss aligned since i installed lowering springs. When i installed the coil overs i set both wheels to max negative camber as i didnt have enough to mesure it properly with.

    Ill try and raise the car a bit and see how it goes. I rekon it might be the steering arm touching somewhere when i turn.

    Any other ideas?

    What about coilover rubbing on tire ??
    What about those metal clips that hold the brake line on the coilover? It could be rubbing on inside of the wheel.

    take the wheel off completely to check for marks.

    If you wound them down all the way, it might be bottoming out on the bumpstop.

    But I'd be checking steering arm, control arm & mainly driveshaft clearance.

    Also, if you've got them at max neg. camber, the tyre maybe rubbing on the spring's.

    I tripple checked everything then once again with a mate. Ofcorse the wheel was off. All of the rubbing marks came from my 16x7.5 that i was running before i had the coilovers.

    Ill have another check to see if it is rubbing on the spring, but there where no marks as far as i could see.

    Clearance seems to be the problem. I raised both sides individualy. It seems to be the left side, the steering arm is alot higher on that side. When i raised it the noise reduced and only does it when you turn right hard. Im guessing it because the car leans on the left and it touches somthing there.


    I guess i cant have it as low as i would like untill i get the tie rods flipped

    Nah, i havnt done that yet. There are a few things on the list before that


    Ill raise the car a bit more tomorrow and see how it goes.

    I installed the rear coilovers today. The ride quality is *****, some bumpes will take the wind out of you. The only other car i have been in that is that bumpy and stiff is my mates magna with the rear springs taken out.

    Can anyone tell me how to make it atleast a bit more bareable, i cant belive people drive around with it being that stiff.

    Cornering is awsome though, the car stays flat. Its as if you are driving a go-cart.

    your first priority should be a wheel alignment. it could be the souce of all your bumps and niggles.

    wind em up is pretty much the only way to better ride quality. i had hottuning in my golf for a few months. you either get used to it or your get rid of it. but i tore my car apart so that's a different story.

    you could get different springs? i dunno if the shocks are rebuildable/replaceable. ie, keep the adjustable housing with different components. but that equals money...

    Winding them up a bit will soften the ride as the shock will have more travel and not so much initial load on the springs. My hottuning coils are really quite compfortable when at a reasonable height, and still werent too bad when wound a fair way down.
