    Don't do it.
My 16v was factory without power steering, about 5 years ago I fitted powersteering out of a crashed aussie 8v, one of the best things I've done to it. So much nicer to drive, and great feedback from the system still.
    My only question is why?
If you're going for a cleaner look I'd suggest looking into a serpentine belt kit.
    If it's weight.....really not something you'll notice.

Nope. I like my non assist 8v. But then again, I've never driven an assisted mk2!

Try once you 'll never look back, best money that I spent - retrofit p/s in my Mk2.

I'm in the middle of fitting power steering to my GTD as the engine is heavy! That said, with non power steering the car is very positive. I will have a spare steering rack for sale shortly!

To answer the original question i think just fitting a non-power rack would be best way to go. Probably be easier & give better feel.

I've only ever owned non-power steering MK2's, so i prefer them. The steering is only heavy at parking speeds, or if you've got wide/heavy wheels. I just see power steering as an unnecessary luxury, just another thing to have to fix.

That's my reasoning behind staying with manual steering.
Also, it clutters up the engine bay more, especially if you've got A/C.

That being said, PS would come in handy, in 30 point turn situations.....
