Odometer calibration figure (km vs mile)

Any one know what is the number under the km/h mean in the speedo ?

I've been told it is the calibration figure, I have a UK cluster in (mile per hour) but still has small km/h figure, but the calibration figure is 1540. are they interchangeable ?

That number translates to the number of revolutions the speedometer cable makes to register 1 mile or kilometer depending on what its setup for.

    So for a mile....
    1609.344 (meters) / 1540 = 1.045028571428571

    And for kms....
    1000 (meters) / 950 = 1.052631578947368

So (i think!) they are slightly different but nothing too major.

There are also different cogs that you can fit to the end of the cable that effect the readout on the speedo.

Not sure on the speedo's myself, but in my old audi (which was MPH) I used the GPS to figure out my speeds, and just remembered what the reading was on the MPH speedo. Didn't take too long to get used too.

    40km/h is 28mph,
    50 is 33,
    60 is 37,
    70 is 43,
    80 is 49,
    100 is 62.

That's off the top of my head, so don't quote me, but no speeding tickets in 2+years!

Ya I worked out they are close, but I fitted the MPH cluster and the speedo is massive different from actual speed, I also use my GPS to check speed.

1540 would be right. The only other mph one they did in the Mk2 was 1505, but that's for 08x gearboxes which AU never saw...
