    Smile Need some help guys

    Hey guys,

I am about to buy a GTi, had a RACV check done today and it seems the car needs:

-New shocks all around, heard Bilstein is good..?
    -Brake discs, only front
    -Aircon needs a regas

What would these parts cost approx. from a VW dealer and what sort of worktime would i expect to pay so i can go down on the sellers price.

Any help and advice is appreciated Thanks, Stef

Nice choice of car! I reckon first bit of advice would be, dont take the car anywhere near a dealer. It will cost a fortune. There are plenty of people on here that can help you with parts and finding a top VW mechanic in your area.

They will chime in soon.....off you go fellas....

Andrew Robinson in hobart amoung others many others..
I would sugest you saty away from the local dealer, and VW imports..
lol.. Parts shouldnt be hard to find and many places such as repco and bursons are able to get many parts.

Might see you on the road!!

I wouldn't let that scare you at all.

Infact they are relatively simple jobs ( bar the aircon regas} so I would have a look see and decide what you want to do the car and perhaps upgrade some parts as opposed to just replacing them.

Don't let the badge/import thing scare you away. You just need to look in the right places for parts, and here's a good start!

A/C regas is about $90-120 depends where u go, shocks also vary depending on brand. Sachs oem are about 330ish a pair obviously bilstein more expensive. Brake discs i got no idea, shouldnt be too expensive.

If ur willing to give stuff ago urself the brakes and shocks can be done over a weekend easy.

I got a new windscreen about 12 months ago from the place across from the batman falkner hotel...cant remember the name sorry.
Cost me 150 supplied and fitted..
One hint tho..the place you mentioned (where you took it).Melburn/volks imports..I wouldn't get them to carry out any work on the car. Not a personal Gripe. but very limited knowledge of most water coolers. They do good work on air coolers.
one interesting thing i was told by 2 fellas there is that an 87 golf was a mk3.
and the mk2 was never ever made in a 2 door variant.......
what the hell are the 2 cars sitting in my garage!? lol

    Thumbs up

I have heard that Imparts are good suppliers of parts & are based in Melbourne

$150 for a windscreen sounds like a bargin, I have been getting prices of late at around $400.
