Made some progress this week after I got a few packages.

I changed the front engine mount. Was fairly easy, getting the radiator out over the a/c plumbing was the hardest bit. I also cut out the alarm out of the red one, i cut the wires where it was attached to on the car so i know where to reconect them on the silver one. I also bought ebay foglights and swaped the plastic housing out for the original metal one so they dont catch fire again, i forgot to take pics of that though.

    New mount

Old mount, cant realy tell that its broken.

Alarm out....i can't belive i payed some one $150 to fit this

Some more progress today. I cleaned the garage so i could fit the car in, then this morning i pushed the car in UP (as i not flat) the bloody drive way in the wet and on an angle

I took out the dash, coilovers, rotors and tryed to take out the hub assembly thing-whats-it-called. The tie rod ball joint needs a ball joint takey-outy tool...which i dont have so the it has been left as you see in the picture because i cant take it appart. Also the front left need and always has needed a new wheel bearing.

Everyone needs to make friend with the people who work at autobarn. Jack stands RRP $80, my price $25.

    Dads GLi still collecting dust.

Here is a taste of things to come, its big, 15kg big.

There is a ridged bit on the hub assy where the ball joint goes through it. If you whack that with a hammer, the balljoint will loosten and can then come out.

Dont hit the balljoint, just the hub surround to jar it loose.

    Damn.

I saw this to late but it doesnt matter.

I got one out. I bought a "ball joint remover", its just a big fork, i jamed that between the hub assy and the ball joint then hit the bottom of the ball joint (where you screw on the bolt) with a hammer while working the fork like a crow bar. I cbf doing it on the other side.

    Its slow going.

Started today by installing mums head unit, probably the cleanest and easiest job ive done in a while.

I took the front left hub assy to a mechanics to get the wheel bearing changed but i bought a mk1 wheel bearing instead of a mk2 wheel bearing so that job is only half done.

My bently manual hasnt come in yet and i couldnt find much info on the net so i took out the rear wheel bearings just to see how it all workes and comes together, thankfully there is no press needed.

I wanted to take the rear hub/disk off aswell but the caliper carier doesnt want to come off , i soaked it in DW40 and im going to leave it and try later.

Can someone tell me the name of the tool i need to take off the drive shafts? 12 point triple-square bit, 8mm size?

spline drive, maybe m8 or m6 can't remeber, yo will have to torque something against it otherwise the output shaft will spin, mine slipped in gear so try using the hub and wheel nuts

    Thanks for the advice mate.

I went back and took of the rear hubs off. Then i thought i would have a go at fixing the number plate lights. The rear end had been damaged and the tail gate was replace, the repairs and refitting where less then half assed so i knew it was going to be a pain.
I found out the number plate lights didnt work becase the earth cable for the lights was split somewhere along the wire. I striped a bit of wire in a few places that i could see to try and narrow down the bit of wire that had the fault but in the end i had to cut one end and take out the whole loom. It turned out that the split was about 10cm from where i had made the cut no way of seeing it as it was under the roof.

Bloody half assed rubish, just make its four times as hard for the next person.
