I found out its an 89 model....i thought it was 90, no difference but just something i didnt know.

Probably built in 89, registered in 90, different states look at different dates Its the same thing tho.

    Here are my suggestions.

    - wipers - Take the ones off your red car
    - parkers are blue - Take the ones off your red car
    - dash lights all need to work - Take the ones off your red car
    - front grill needs to be secure - Cable Ties
    - no number plate globes - Take the ones off your red car
    - secure and mount radiator - Take the brackets off your red car or use cable ties
    - no timing belt cover (do i use a mk3 cover?) - It goes on the head, so its a 1.8 one, take the one off your red car
    - front shocks - Take the ones off your red car
    - exhaust mounts - Take the ones off your red car
    - rear wheel bearings - New ones are cheap as, or - Take the ones off your red car
    - secure wires under front bar - Cable Ties
    - passenger side seat is loose - The rectangular block that goes on the seat base has come off when you have swopped the seats, replace it
    - wash motor and repair oil leaks - degrease and clean
    - p/s drive shaft boot - Take the ones off your red car
    - drive shaft seals - Take the ones off your red car
    - p/s lower side skirt trim - Take the ones off your red car
    - refit fog light - Take the ones off your red car
    - 2 new tyres - Good Idea for safety too.
    - front rotors - VR6 Front ones from TIM or Imparts or me.
    - rear rotors - Take the ones off your red car
    - p/s tie rod end boot (wtf is that?) - Take the ones off your red car
    - possible water leak Check, but I dont think so, tighten hose if so
    - accelerator pedal rubber (Mk2's dont have one do they?) - NO
    - front engine mount - GAP or Imparts or CGTI

change it back to 4x100 stud pattern and use the bbs wheels.

You could do that and sell the 5 stud conversion kit. You should change the whole front legs if you are going this route and the rear disks etc. That will fix a few of the probs above too.

Unrelated to the RWC, i want to know why my 2nd gear ALWAYS grinds when i slap it from 1st to 2nd quickly, it did it on the red one aswell and its only in 2nd. keep in mind the box has been rebuilt. Is it just what they do or is they syncro no good?

Its a linkage issue usually, which can also be caused by engine mounts being worn, causing the gearbox to move, when you need it steady to change. Prolonged linkages not being adjusted causes wear in the boxes.
Just dont slap it into 2nd and you will be fine.

Better get to work mate, should be a good Mk2 when you are done tho.

All the stuff you said about taking it off the red one was already planned. There would have been alot more on that list if i hadnt already changed a bunch of things.
Most of the stuff is prity easy appart from the drive shaft and tie rod, ive never attempted it and it would be easyer if my drive way wasnt uphill.
The stuff that is not coming off the red one has already been ordered through GAP and Ebay.

I will be using the wheels off the red one for RWC and ill try pass with the coilovers.

I have replaced the shift linkage with the one off my red one wich as about 1000km old and aligned it with the alignments tool. I still need to drop the exhaust and replace the shiffter bits though, its very very flopy at the moment even with a new "red ball".

Hopefully I can have it rego'ed in 2weeks.

The radiator never had brackets mate, I havent seen a Mk2 for a year so have no brackets. I reckon the ones off your wreck will be fine.

I`d use the suspension from the silver car, not the coilovers, make it nice and stock looking, then go home and go crazy.

The bootlid light mounting point, I`d just put a washer or piece of plastic up there and screw into that. At least all the panels are then the same colour. Inspectors like that.

Have you tried the cover, surely that fits the head and the 2e cover covers the engine?

Sounds like he was being Very very thorough. I reckon if you go back with everything on the list ticked off and the car looks respectable, you are in.

    Good luck.

If you ask me he was being a bastard, grumpy old bastard. I told him my other mechanic sent me to him and it didn't count for anything. I should have gone to someone i know but what can you do.

The cover fits the head but doesn't reach all the way down so its a bit wobbly.

Its just one bracket on the driver side that is missing, I hope it didn't brake in the accident.

I have my old front shocks from the red one, they are about 2000km old. He didn't tell me what was wrong with the shocks, just wrote front shocks. I don't want to change the shocks and then change them again.

I worked on this car once many moons ago .

I wouldnt be using cable ties to hold a radiator support !!!

    For something different :

Do a compression test on the engine .

check lambda probe function refer to this thread :

pm me if you get stuck

Thanks mate. I will check that bugger when i get time.

I fiddled with the vacume lines today and thought i had it...but nope.

It's so damn frustrating! It idles perfect when its cold but after a minute it will start hunting and no matter what I try, nothing makes any difference.

I did some more fiddling before the sun went down.

When you unplug the temp sender it idles normal, no hunting. The temp sender is from the red car and worked, i also have about 5 working ones (don't ask), ill swap them round and see if there are any changes.

Also, i unpluged the O2 sensor and there is no hunting but idle goes up.

I didn't think it was a vacume or air leak problem because it would hunt at any rpm.

Nice one mate, sorry to see your red one looking a bit of a mess.

In case you're wondering why he didn't put VR6 front discs on, it's because the VR ones have a different offset because of the wide track.

I had to re-drill my front discs to match them with the VR6 hubs to go 5x100.
