After you have this happen and it won't start, I would suggest you pull the plugs and see if they are wet - you may have a stuck/leaky injector?

Fuel pump relay can be tested by making a jumper wire for the fusebox and testing it that way (but you should be able to hear the pump running if it is) Generally fp relay are 67, 80 or 167, can be found on mk2 digi.

Get a jumper wire and put it between the 2 large pins on the relay socket, fuel pump should fire up and run constant. if car still doesnt start the problem is elsewhere
