    My MK2 GTI.

Hey all! The names dean. Im a vag/euro mechanic at a small shop in melbourne.

This is my new mk2 gti golf. picked it up for a bargin with no roady. It only needed a screen, 2 front tyres, c/v boot, center muffler & i also rebuilt the gearbox as the reverse idler was stuffed & she did the old crunch into 2nd so we did off with the old graphite syncro and upgraded.

Other than that it dont need much. Theres a small patch of clear coat peeling on thr drivers side quater & the black exteriour plastics are a bit faded. Give it a polish & she should be mickey!

Im still undecided wether to leave it stock and try to restore it or do some mods (only stuff that can be reversed) coz i have access to a vr6 5-stud conversion & 17" vw mags?? & coilovers.

Looks prity clean man. Coilovers are a must but 17" require serious arch work and dont look that good on a mk2. Any other plans for the box to make up for having masive brakes?

Looks good. A yes vote for vr6 5-stud conversion (big brakes too), but no to the 17" wheels (can't go low enough on them )

I wouldn't go as far as saying you can't get them low enough!

I actually like 17's on a mk2, but it does affect the handling.

The way I see it, if you only have 90hp, it isn't really a street weapon & more of a cruiser, so my not make it look good!

An old photo off Ausgolfers on 15" Ronals & my mums car on 17" BBS'.

When my brother first built this, we lowered it alot more than what you see above. The front & rear tyre's were totally tucked by the wheel arch, so the wheel arch was at Rim level & it still rarely scrubbed!

Oh yeah. Mum's car rarely scrub's & is used everyday. She wouldn't have it any other way.

Sorry to be off topic here, but that's a pretty cool car for a mum. I wish my mum had a MK2 GTi 2door.

i reckon the 15s are perfect. To me the 17s just look way too big and don't suit it at all... that's just personal preference though.
If it was up to me I would definitely not be going any bigger than 15s.
