check the exhaust movement for tapping noises, apart from that, you'll have to just try and pin point where it is in the engine bay. Ie have someone rev the car and you listen to find where it's coming from. Noises are very hard to diagnose across the internet.

as for the exhaust leak, get a piece of paper (news paper is good, cause it's light and flexible) and hold a piece up against near where you think the leak is. if there's a leak, it should wiggle around as if you were blowing on it. Other method is to cover the exhaust pipe for a second or 2, with a rag, and listen for an increase in pressure being forced out from the suspected 'leak.damaged' area. slightly harder to do, especially if you have a loud ish exhaust.

    hope this helps.

potentially, yes. I had extractors come apart (bolt fell out, and slowly worked the others loose) and it started off as a ticking, but after about two days it was pretty noticeable that is was an exhaust leak. (got much louder)

Cool. I don't have the flex joint in mine (bodged it to get it to run) so I'll get the exhaust dude to weld one in when he replaces my magnex rear box.

Edit: I take the cap off and it's not any louder.

Still need a flex joint but took it for a spin after working out that the exhaust manifold was loose on one side. Did it up, adjusted the shift linkage as I couldn't get under it to replace the relay bush.

Heaps more power than before. Great pull off the line (Need to change the clutch and the CV's) and great through the gears. But I had a problem when I went, to change gears and nothing happened. I pulled the long shift rod apart and the pin got pulled through and lost on the weighted rod. Jerry rigged it with a useless allen key and pushed the shift rod back together. I shouldn't be able to pull the rod end off should I??? Are there 2 different ball sizes on the shifter linkages?

Hmm.. Silence! fixed a hole in the manifold, but I think it's going to have to come off again to fix it properly. Had the flex joint put in and it's quieter, I just need to secure the rear box properly.

    Thanks guys!

Changed the clutch. Boy was that fun! Started it up to test it and while closing the garage door, the engine died and wouldn't start. Prior to this it had been running oddly then would die. Take the cap/rotor out and refit, it would run for about 500m thendie again. Was not an enjoyable drive home. Mrs was bitching-sell it!!

    Replaced:
    The coil- nothing.
    The cap- nothinbg
    the button- nothing
    The ignition module- nothing.

I'm now thinking I may have a dud HT lead to the coil. Tried shorting it against the block, no spark.
Pulled a plug - soaked in fuel confirming no spark.

    Anyone have any ideas???

My car had a (slightly) 'tappety' sound in the engine bay when the cap on the CO test/tap tube was removed/broken (see below)
