    Mounts

Pretty sure the mounts are shot in my car, got bad engine thudding when i back off like the engine is rocking.

What mount(s) commonly go? would it be best just to do a full replacement while i'm at it?

I've also noticed a bit of a knock and vibration somewhere in my front end, not sure if it due to the mounts or something else is up.

Also suggestions on type and where I can get them? locally would be good but not sure how plausible it is.

    cheers,

Get a g60 transmission mount, they are solid rubber instead of the factory oil filled ones. Other than that i dont know much about mk2 mounts

G60 front mount is good but I have seen even them pull apart. You can make a heavy duty one with the aid of a MIG and a Hacksaw.

I used to make my own out of the big wide MK2 mounts. When you open one up, you find a big lump of rubber with holes. If you fill the holes up, I used some old bolts with the heads cut off. They were just the right diameter, about 6mm diameter.

Squeeze it back together and weld it up.

I'll see if I can find a picture.

Its probably the one behind the gearbox. The most common to go. I`d use a VR6 one as a replacement.

    Thanks guys.

I've found a few places in the US that stock mounts, anyone know of any locally? not really fussed on upgraded ones it's just a cruiser so don't want solid mounts really.

The ones I made weren't solid at all, no extra vibes. Just that style of mount doesn't pull apart like the hydraulic ones do when they fail.

You need a Golf 2, Toledo or G60 front one, the Golf 3 ones are different.

The gearbox rear one can be vr6.

I can get all these locally. I just put the vr6 ones in everything these days, no more vibration, just longer life.
