MkIII (VR6) Wing Mirrors on a MkII

I assume it can be done, but "would it look any good?" is my next question.

My mirrors are in bad shape and was going to look for a OEM set in decent condition.

My main concern is they would not suit the car, thoughts?

I don't think they would suit, too rounded IMO.

I am that sure that they would fit, but in any case I prefer the mk2 better

There should be some available around somewhere or you can contact VW to get a price just for a laugh

They are not heavey so you could always go ebay UK & just get them posted over

Whats wrong with them? Some decent CL mechanical ones would be your best bet I guess. They'd look good, particularly on a big bumper model.

I agree with ausgolfer. Unless you're going for a modern look.

I'm actually looking for Mk2 mirrors. I know that they will need a bit of trimming and cutting to get them to fit on, so I think it's about the same for the Mk3 mirrors on a Mk2. It won't be a direct fit, that's for sure.

In what kinda shape are your Mk2 mirrors in (pictures)? I was hoping to do a swap when I saw the thread title

I reckon painted black, the "curviness" won't stick out too much.

If your going for that muscular big bumpered look then the MK3 mirrors are the way to go, otherwise I'd get motorcycle mirrors ray, they look awesome and are very rat like. They're small and manually adjustable, alot of the beetles have them. Check em' out, you can probably get them at a fair few places I'd imagine.

There's nothing really wrong with them
I just think the original ones suit the car a bit better they look light weight & slimline, but if you ask me about door handles I would say the mk3 ones look much better on a mk2 by smoothing the car out.

One of my mirrors is cracked the whole way through even though its all in one piece still, the other has a big crack and a chunk missing as well as the fact they dont actually work via the adjustment switch (but thats another issue I will look at).

I could probably fix the one with the crack with some plasti bond/sanding/paint but the sucker with the bit missing is dead. Was a bit concerned the Mk3 ones were a bit rounded but as you said, might suit big bumper model ok.

    These are the puppys....
