why dont yo build one head and then change the pistons, rods, and cam when swapping to forced induction.... far cheaper and easier with the same outcome

as for the RS2 pistons, they have a piston top to match a 4v/cyl head so they are completley diffrent to a 8v head

im building a full race ready car also if i do choose to change head i can sell my worked head.
well if i choose to keep same engine and same car.
i wanted to change to g60 pistons etc but they only go to 250hp.
thing is my friend has them in his mk1 gti convertible with the same engine as mine and he used the rs2 pistons and hes pushing out 550hp.
so ill follow it and if it doesent work then no.
maby for forced induction ill keep the head and just as a compression reduction plate into it to lower the compression.
i already have on from 11:1 to 8:1

If you're building a full race ready car, you'd be better off to use a set of aftermarket 4000 series grade alloy forged pistons suited for your engine. Then you can have the diameter, pin height (ie, compression ratio) you want exactly. Far easier and they'll never let go. With 4000 series they don't expand too much so you won't have to worry about oil consumption and cold rattling etc.

    My opinion though.

yes i have been considering that aswell.
but there is alot of decisions i am making not to blow my budget.
not jokes but the forged pistons are crazy and sexy but i still want to stick to some stock things untill i know what i want to use as my supercharged engine.
well the rs2 pistons do fit in but only modified my mate shaved a bit off the top of it i think.
im too tired and got no clue whats happening at the moment i think but thanks for telling me before i was gonna get them shipped.
now i shall exchange them for the g60 ones and most prob use the left over money for some visual tuning like a front bumper or sideskirts.
    who knows.
    but thanks for reminding me.
funny how the smallest part can make the diff.

All sounds cool! Bit of a worry you don't know the brand/specs of the coilovers you spent money on!!??
I'll be running a 270bhp 20vt in my mk2 and the standard rear brakes will be fine. I'm just going to use EBC greenstuff pads with the standard rear disc. Otherwise your brake balance will be very rear heavy and twitchy in the back! The front brakes are what you only really need to upgrade, but even then you'll find 298mm is too much. Plus you'll need fairly big rims to fit over them, and thin rubber to compensate for the larger diameter wheel. this might in turn affect your ability to find suitable tyres for racing and you may struggle to find the ideal tyre pressures to get the car handling properly - especially with one-way adjustable suspension.

I dont think you'll need to go any bigger than 280mm - 288mm front discs as long as you use quality pads and discs. Otherwise the result will be a sinking feeling in your brake pedal, followed by a sinking feeling in the back of your racesuit!

just my 2 bob's worth I hope I'm not crapping on your project, Don't just go buying stuff because someone told you to

Can't wait to see some pics though!!
    Cheers,
    Wade

well to brakes arent my worry, they suit the car fine. 298mm fit into 16" rims and thats what i wanted.
im only looking t get 170 at max out of my car becaus its naturally aspirated.
i want to get alot of stuff for te car incl forged pistons etc but that time has run out for me. money is the issue.
so one day im going to go build myself a 16v engine with turbo and every gadget, but at the moment ill just stick to the medium tune

How much is it going to cost exactly to get 170hp out? "too expensive" is a difficult term in a forum like this where some people think $1k coilovers are too expensive, and others $3k...

Just trying to get an idea, also a very very rough overall cost to supercharge a 1.8 to make it reliable? lol sry if it's a bit hard to estimate.

well to get that much u can spend anywhere from 2k-10k depends on what your gonna use.
like i pm you, if you want you can easily do it for the 4k.
youll even have alot left over.
i also have a spuercharger for sale.
eaton m45 from mini. good enough to give you a decent 300hp with the right tuning.
the whole set with adapter plates pulleys and blets will cost about 2k.
but then youll need the proper engine tuning with new crank and pistons etc.
so youll be looking at a good 4k for about 200-300hp. maby a bit cheaper, depends on what you want to do.
stock pistons and rods are good for about 170-200hp.
but if you want g60 pistons and rods would set you back about 200 bucks at max and that goes to about 250-280hp.
then if you use the nitrate cooled valve head from the g60 another 300 bucks.
i got alot of things just not the right parts to put into my one engine.
cause we have Stupid P plate laws.
