    Mk2 Gti or Mk3 Vr6 as daily?

Hey guys, i sold my mk5 tdi a while back, im now driving an xr6 turbo, but i want a cheaper daily. sell falcon, buy one of the above for 5-8 grand, pocket the change, get coils and bbs and use it as a daily. i am prepared for maintenance, and i want a bit of a project at the same time but i dont want to be fixing things every weekend. both have pro's and con's, but as a daily which is better, i know to steer clear of 1994 vr6's, and theres the cleaaannn 85 gti i have my eyes on in the for sale section. but i want some 3rd party opinions. my daily trip is to uni, about 10kms, and work is about 60kms, trying to find a new job closer to home though. the work trips max speed is 80km/h. the car will be very low when im done.
    any opinions?

As a daily I'd say a mk3 is better and the VR has alot more power... But if you want a fun car to drive, get a mk2!!
And you can always make a mk2 a nice daily.... Read Ryan's thread.
Saying that, I daily my 16v and never had any issues.

you say cheap, do you mean cheap to run? because VR6's are stupid on fuel.

    Mk2 for sure.
Smaller engine, less fuel, few driver aids.

have you thought of a seat ibiza GTI? size of a mk1 with the power of a mk3. I had one a while back and regret selling it ever since. My brother might be interested in selling his (for a lot less then a clean mk2/vr6 will set you back).

It needs a little cosmetic work but mention you wouldn't mind a bit of a project at the same time.

Pm me if you are keen..

Vr6 if you don't mind the fuel bill. The smiles are worth it

yea fuels not an issue, dont do a huge amount of kms, and work pays me 74c a km if i drive with them.
im swaying towards vr6, that noise, a bit more modern, but still a classic, and more parts seem to be available.
