Mk2 gti issues
Hi all,
Well I've joined the mk2 ranks picked up a 91 gti. Body and interior are immaculate. Engine has a few k's and pulls strong. I didn't Think I wud enjoy driving it as much as I do.
Unsurprisingly I've got a few issues. It takes a few turns for the car to start and I hadn't driven it over the weekend and it was dead. Dreading the worst I jump started it and it fired up. So I'm thinking battery is not holding it's charge?
I don't know if it's related over the past few days I've got an annoying idle. It drops then drop so much so it's like the car will switch off and then revs itself. Today it almost died and the battery light came on.
Any ideas? I've got some pics and will post shortly, but loving it so far and can't wait to start modifying it.
Cheers

The swinging idle is usually down to the ISV needing a clean out. Idle stabilisation valve.
Make sure that the earth lead off the gearbox mount to body and battery is in good condition.
I'd also check that all the basic settings are good.
Most running faults on my MK2s have been down to worn plugs, dissy cap, rotor, plug leads and timing.

Cheers mate, so why was I able to jump start it? Could it be a number of issues?

We had that issue for ages.
Turns out it was the plug that runs to the idle switch at the back of the throttle body was borked. Try that first after throwing money at the parts which control the idle ISV, MAF, etc.
