    MK2 GTI Down on power

I bought a Mk2 Golf gti 8v for my first car and its mostly great, but it seems to be running wrong. It feels really down on power and doesn't want to rev out cleanly. I also think that its using a bit more fuel than it should be, but I'm not quite sure.
I was thinking that maybe it might be running rich but I really have no idea so I was looking on advice for what the problem could be and even any good places that know classic VW's to perhaps get it serviced around the Adelaide/Barossa area.

    Cheers

Had the car serviced recently? Spark plugs and filters changed? Try running some BP Ultimate fuel?

They make about 90hp, there's skateboards that are quicker these days. That's the whole nature of the Aussie GTI. It's strangled by the manifolds and was never designed to rev. Even proper UK/Euro ones weren't that quick, unless you had a 16V.

I've only run 98 since I bought it, but it probably is due for a service. I put brand new plugs in and some injector cleaner but it didn't appear to make much difference. Do you know of any good places to take it for a service? There's a Volkswagen dealer in my town but it's pretty new so I figured they wouldn't know much about the classics.

@Transporter is one of the moderators here and a respected mobile mechanic in SA who would be worth contacting.
