MK2 GTI air flow sensor - Can it be installed upside down?

I know this is a weird question, but I am wondering if there is any reason the air flow sensor needs to be in any particular direction?

ie. I wish to mount it upside down so I can tidy up the engine bay.

Any ideas if this would be an issue? I can't personally see a problem based on looking at the unit itself.

I reckon it would be better the right way up. That said, as the air will go through it regardless it'll still work.

Not sure if gravity would have much effect on it's movement and therefore the output?
