This is nice man love it. Any future plans? Jetta yours aswell??
Hey dudes just thought I should drop in and show off my 1990 GTD
Imported from the UK in 2009, it has a 1Z TDI from a MK3 with a mechanical pump from a Peugeot
I'm now selling my Mk1 because after owning a Mk2 you kinda realise they're wayyyy better
Red sucks though as I spend way too much of my time stopping it from turning powdery pink
Hope you like it

Thanks man, My plans are to keep it as period correct as possible, and I've already started doing that for example replacing the CD player with a tape player that is as close to factory as I could find. The BBS will go back on one day.
Unfortunately the Jetta isn't mine but it's also ex-UK so it was cool to have them together.
Some info on my GTD, it's currently travelled 244,xxx miles, which from a bodywork point of view is incredible as it only has minor blemishes bar one 50c sized rust spot on the drivers door, pf which I have a replacement alhough it's white. The interior is immaculate, the carpets helped bu rubber VW branded foor mats.
The seats are a bit of an oddity as they're the same pattern as Aus del GTIs (bluish grey tartan) but they have standard bolstering. This kinda confirms the GTD was more of a Driver diesel rather than a GTI diesel.I'd love to get a pair of Recaros or similar and have them reupholstered in the same material.
One thing I've noticed about every Mk2 I've ever driven - whats with the stupid steering wheel position?? its too low and slightly to the right, obscuring the speedo and being too close to your thighs. Although this isn't sooooo much of an issue with the standard seats I feel I may need Corrado rails for when I want anything with more support. Maybe is a subjective thing, I dunno

yer sweet as will be a nice cruiser. if you can find some gti seats would be even better and just get the re-trimmed later. or a cheaper alternative for some bolster is a set of vr6 fronts from a mk3. fitted a set to a mates mk1 and didnt look too bad.

I love the P slots! Look real good on it. Is that Sammy's jetta by any chance?
- Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold
- Golf mk1 Swallowtail rebuild, completely stripped
- Brown U.S import 81 cabby
- 88 Honda crx b18cr
Yeah thought about VR6 seats but I'm fully into the period correctness so want to find some old Recaros with the fishnet head rests
Apparently not 😧 I've gotten used to it but it's still not great. If it didn't have the MPHdash with the KM/H in a smaller circle within the miles I'd have to duck to check speed
Thanks man! Wish they were 15s but beggars can't be choosers. Sure is Sam's, and can't wait to see what he does with it
Always liked the Mk2 GTI but know Ive seen and know there's a mk2 GTD , this goes to the top of the list.
Just a quick update.
Got a GTD badge 3D printed in Hungary and certainly looks the part
Also picked up a vintage Luisi wheel from a mate and really suits the car
Got a pot of colour matched paint and painted my grill and dash stripe
At some point I got some Hella spotlights and mounted the rectangle ones but cut the circle ones covers to fit my inner spots. I've since removed the ones from the grill, along with the AA badge.
I bought a Mk3 TDi also on impulse so I now have Mk1-2-3 diesel. Wont be for long though as it looks as if my Mk1 might have found a new owner.
Here they are together
I will daily the Mk3 as I finally got a clutch in for the Mk2. 277,800 miles is a little too much for the old girl I think.

Hello! Thought I'd say hi! I'm the fella that imported it to Oz! Good to see it's still being loved and looking original! I'm now looking into Mk 1's! Never a dull moment! Have you still got the GTD? If so, re the clutch I think it's more about the torque... The GTD couch is too small, as it was a new clutch when that engine went in.
