    MK2 golf clutch cable identification

    Hey everyone,

So I was driving along Parramatta rd the other day and my clutch cable snapped (The little plastic end piece where it connects to the pedal). Managed to reconnect it and nurse the car home, lucky!.
Anyway I'm looking to replace the cable but the problem is my car is a 1991 MK2 Golf gti 8V 1.8L, with a MK3 2E 2.0L engine, so i'm not entirely sure which part to get. In a moment of rare confidence, I rushed in and had a stab at replacing it with the MK3 self adjusting cable but it turns out its too short (looks very similar!). So now i'm convinced it must be the MK2 self adjusting clutch cable.

Anyone here an expert at identifying golf 2 clutch cables? On the side of my current broken one it says "DURA AF3 192 721 335 H KW 09/99". It looks like this GermanAutoParts.com :.

Lastly, would the MK2 manual adjusting clutch cable work in my car? The bentley manual states that these two parts are NOT interchangeable.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Josh

Put a cabriolet manual adjustable one in
That's what I did. Works good.

Thanks Pokie! What made you go with the cabriolet cable, over the regular MK2 cable? Is it longer? Also, where did you get it from?

I spoke to the nice people at germanautoparts and they were very helpful. However, they raised a point that their clutch cables would be for a left hand drive, not right. Hadn't thought of that!

I think I might give the MK2 manual adjustment clutch cable a crack this arvo. Will let everyone know how it goes. I think I need to get different bushings to go with it? not too sure, but i'll see if I can grab them anyway.

    These ones?

    Hey guys,

So I ended up getting a golf 2 manual adjusting clutch cable and it seems to work well. I think it's very similar to the cabriolet Pokie, so thanks for the suggestion! My main concern was the length and it is definitely long enough. Only thing is, i'm not sure how to adjust it to a near perfect clutch feel. It's functional, but i'm not sure if it's working optimally. Any tips?

Check your pedals are flush with each other, as this can
Affect how it feels and you 7-10 m&m of up and down movement in the cable
Where it sits on the gearbox. I found the pedals to be my main problem
I ended up using a bolt and nut with washes to push
The pedal into its correct position. The bracket bends and becomes weak over time.
    Cheers mate
