    MK2 Engine Wiring Harness

Well as I slowly replace and fix the issues with my car, the one thing that always limits and annoys me is the wiring in the engine bay

Virtually every wire that goes to a sender unit or electrical sensor in the engine bay is extremely brittle, some wire/areas the plastic on the outer of the copper wire is cracking away.... I fear most of the wires won't be able to last another 5 years.

Can a full wiring harness still be sourced for MK2 golf?
Or is my only option to painstakenly remove each wire from its connectors/plugs and replace it with a new piece of wire?
Or get a auto sparky to do all the work for me for big amounts of $$$

    Anyone else with this issue?

    Thanks

everybody has this issue. only the most meticulous of maintained mk2s have a wiring loom that's worth more than copper it shrouds.

you can try clean up the wiring (ie strip and re-wire) or find someone with a full loom they're willing to part with. you're probably not going to be able to find one new

Itll take a couple of hours, a wire stipers and some duel wall head shrink.
Ive just done the wiring in my mk1 and it was prity easy. If you are going to do it make sure that you use wire that can cope with the heat if they are going to be close to the motor, i cant remeber what its called but it its not as flexable as the regular stuff.

    This doesn't make sense.

If I can get a custom wiring harness made to match any motor (turbo, VR6, new 2litre) to suit my MK2 then why can't you get a new harness for the whole car?

There must be some companies out there that can help.

Oh dear, I beleive I said the slightly wrong thing
Im not chasing an entire wiring harness for my car, just a wiring harness for the engine bay.

You can get a PREMADE wiring harness for your motor?
Or does it need to be custom made?

    Thanks.
