    MK2 8v MPG.

    Hi

on a 1.8 8v mk2 (RV) engine what MPg should I be getting ?. I've rebuld the 8v engine. it's done almost 1000k since the rebuild.
I'm sure my timing/tuning needs to be corrected. but can any one advise what MPG I should be averaging ?

according the the MGF when the car is cold I get 27-32mpg but once at normal operating temp, the mpg goes down to about 16mpg. any thoughts ?

    your advice is appreciated.

mpg is not commonly used in Australia. My 1986 k-jet Mk2 uses about 10 to 11 L per 100km suburb driving, you can convert it to mpg if you find a formula in google.

You can't really judge consumption around town IMO, too many variables. Doing 100km or more on a highway gives a much better idea of what's happening.

I could get 35+mpg from my Kjet mk2 driving at under 80mph/130kmh of the motorways in the UK. I don't see any reason that wouldn't be the case here.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I was tuning incorrectly. Now getting about 25mgp (9-10 l/100klms) city cycle not sure on freeway yet.
Ps. The city cycle is not thrashing just city crusing.

When I was tuning before, I removed green plug, revved 3k, tuned put green plug back on, revved, 3k all done. I was getting bad mpg (about 17 l/100 Klm).

This time I removed green plug, revved 3k, tuned, revved 3k, put green plug back on, revved to 3k again.

I didn't think I had to revv to 3k the 2nd time after setting idle & co with the green plug off.

Any way it worked for me ..... I think. I'll update once a freeway test has been done.

    Cheers

    Mfa.

Ps my Mfa. Reads mpg not l/100klm, also reads fahrenheit not Celsius. But speedo is kph.

Is this normal for a non private import ?, it's a 1990 Australian model.

It may not be the original cluster.
