@HaydEn played around this morning. Cleaned crankshaft sensor (no change), cleaned up ignition coil (no change), however I did find a tiny tiny crack but not solid on that being the issue (I'll add a pic). So I cleaned the camshaft sensor and the car somewhat could hold idle (revving itself up to 1000, dropping back down to 500, occassionally it would stall and occassionally it could hold.) Car also blew a bit of smoke too.. so will purchase a new camshaft sensor to hopefully see more improvement as the current could have been faulty. May also look at injectors as there could be a fair bit of fuel going through and blowing out the spark. Dunno. Trial and error and hoping the $$$ don't become too much as a camshaft sensor is $150

Now with the big changes from Covid not much is going to be done. Made a quick 2 hour trip to the place where the project car is yesterday to grab the 2 doors and boot so I can spend the next few weeks stripping them to bare metal and then priming up at my home. Just finished the other front quarter panel. Other than that not much can be done. Not much to do on the mk4 either. Installed some HID's the other day on it. Might give it a polish.

Have a new ignition coil ready to go in. Here's a pic of the fault codes. Shout out what you think could be a problem. Next on the list will be a new camshaft sensor.

So is it misfiring or not idling?

Idle issue will likely be the Idle Control Valve.

They get stuck and the engine runs pretty doughy in low rpm as a result.

You can remove it and plug the ports, the Throttle Body will have an adjustable mechanical stop. Wind that out till it idles at ~800rpm and you’ll be sorted.

Update: 25/04/2020

VR6 is running, replaced ignition coil and idles perfectly at 800rpm. @HaydEn must have been the little crack in the coil and causing it to misfire so $80 later, got a nice running VR6 ready for swap now.

Huge day of deleting sunroof. Cut a large section out of the parts car and measured it out to make sure that it had the same profile as the 2 door. Cut sunroof out about with about 1/2 inch wider then used a crimping tool so it has a lip so it could be pushed up from underneath. Also used the cross beam from the parts car which had been taken out for when the sunroof was cut. Threw on some copper primer and welded in.

Had a wet rag going underneath to cool it while it was being welded to stop warping as much as possible. Overall its not too bad. not brilliant but certainly not shocking. Now just for grinding and bogging.

Will finish cleaning out interior then vr6 swap can begin.

Clean clean clean and interior done. Had to leave out the roof as the sunroof patching has made the panel all wobbly, even after putting the cross members in so will send it to a panel beater sometime to straighten it all out.
Next up is Vr6 stripping.
