mk 2 jetta 1.8 8valve power queries
hey just wanna know how much power and torque the average 1.8 8valve mk2 jetta makes nd what kinda gaines can be made by going 82.5mm pistons and 276 degree camshaft also offset small ends to increase stroke about 2.5 mm and a decked block 0.4mm the rest all standard just a guess or shot in the dark will be ok and 95 octane pump fuel had all this done still drivin her in cant seem to get a feel if its any betta or could the motor still be tight only coverd 300 km

the motor probably still is a bit tight. they tend to loosen up after a couple of thousand at least. i'd imagine that motor would be very similar to a decked 3a (bubble block) with a 276 cam. Has the head had any work done? because if it was originally just a stock 1.8, i wouldn't expect to get more than 125 130hp out of it just with cam.
welcome btw.

I think jayjay is reasonably on the money there. With a cam like a 276, I'd hope you have the rest of the work done to suit; ie bigger intake, exhaust, perhaps a slighlty worked head & inlet manifold, and increase in compression.
That is providing everything is in proper working order, or as new condition. No point having all this fandangle work on your motor if you have splotchy injectors, or a weak spark for example.

thanks for the opinion the head was only overhauled new valves and the like with a light decking the whole job was a bit more than i bargained for financially gonna start with a plug leads and everything i can think of the power figures you gave arent bad because that was the aim hopefully after all the frills have been checked or replaced ill be able to get it on a dyno to get figures thanx again

cool another question i did have 20valve polo conrods installed bec mine were buggered and here in sa i just couldnt find any original replacements is there a difference in weight vs the original rod

Glad this thread came up. Im looking at introducing a 268 cam into my MK2, however I want/need to do the springs and lifters and most of the head at the same time. Can someone tell me the difference in following and if any work needs to be done to the head to accomodate the larger (41x34 & 42x35mm)
40mm x 33mm 8V Hyd. Hi-Flow Valve Upgrade Kit
41mm x 34mm 8V Hyd. Big Valve Upgrade Kit (+1mm oversize)
42mm x 35mm 8V Hyd. Big Valve Upgrade Kit (+2mm oversize)
