Wow, looks very nice especially considering the price you got it for.

Being a diesel, this would make a great daily I reckon.

correct me if im wrong, but thats not a GTD?? unless they had non-intercooled versions

hang on.. found this on reliable wiki
    1.6L 54 PS (40 kW; 53 hp) I4 diesel
    1.6L 60 PS (44 kW; 59 hp) I4 turbo diesel (eco diesel)
    1.6L 70 PS (51 kW; 69 hp) I4 turbo diesel
    1.6L 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp) I4 turbo-intercooler diesel

great to see they're still around

I have a 1.6 turbo engine in the shed, which was from a mk2 UK Golf, (the engine above) and I can confirm that the engine has a turbo-charger, but no inter-cooler

Brings back my apprenticeship memories that one, just forget Scotland was littered with them, and next to nothing here, its even rare to see a 1z or AAZ Mk3 these days. On that i worked on countless UMWELT 1.9 which was the gutless 1y, most of the police Mk3 wagons had that motor, remembering endless fun out roadtesting them haha. Any Ecomomatics ever brought out here?? that was a monster and a half. They were the days

    Cheers.

Yeah, looks like you got a std mk2 TD, not GTD - sok though. The 1.6L engine is the same.... its only the intercooler that changed for more power....

that, and your injector pump is one without boost compensation - thats OK, not big deal really, just means its trickier to tune it smoke free.

Jimmy, the 1Y is great once you put a turbo on it

if yours 1.6 is the "ecodeisel" model, then that turbo is probably a k14. If not, the turbo is probably a k24 or T3. they all bolt up the same, and have the same downpipe and other connections, but there will be a plate on the compressor housing somewhere that says what it is.
