    Knocking sound when cornering

Hi guys, my car has developed a knocking sound when I turn either way no matter how fast or slow I'm going as long as I'm accelerating at all. It's coming from the front of the car. It sounds to me like bearings or cv's, but they were done about a year & a half ago.

My mechanic originally thought it was the exhaust hitting the body due to a broken exhaust clip, I had my doubts about that one, and sure enough he replaced it and the knocking continues and is getting worse.

My mechanic now reckons it's struts or a lower control arm, but I'm starting to wonder if my mechanic knows what he's on about, as he was way wrong with the exhaust clip diagnosis...

    Any ideas?

To do it both ways doesn't point to exhaust. Sound like a CV joint whih is a clacking sound. Checked the wheel bolts? Wouldn't think control arms. Cheers and good luck wth it. Let us know what it is when you fix it.

    Sounds like CVs.

CVs, or front engine mount. Get an assistant to watch the motor and see if you can lift it with the clutch.

Cheers for the replies... Yeah it sounds like cv's to me as well, I remember the sound from last time they went.. but surely they should last longer than a year & a half? And is there no way it would be struts or a lower control arm? I'll try that engine mount test thanks Loon.

Sounds like I'm due for a new mechanic, cheers for the tip Syncro, Wolfsburg Automotive are in Essendon yeah?

I done my lower control arm bushes, it sounded more like a thumping noise when de-accelerating and accelerating, I thought it was an engine mount. Check ya C.V boots and see if there torn because most the time C.V's wear out because the boots tear, the grease goes everywhere and water also gets into the joint and wears the joint out.

tweak the buggery out of ya axle nuts first... but if its a "clacking" sound it more likley the cvz.... i had weird noises in corners in my old GT rolla..the previous guy had a new clutch put in and they hadnt done the axle nuts up quite tight enough..it was 12 mths after that it started being noisy...got 2 ppl hanging off a bar with a steel tube over the top and fixed it right up, lol..
was just slight movement on the splines..wasnt "loose" but enough to make a nasty noise.
    Cheers, Benny
