Just got my Golf MK2 have some questions :)

I have been browsing and checking the site since I got an 89 Golf CLi A/T last week and I have some questions. Hope you could help me

    1. Acceleration - Its slow in acceleration, at the start. Is this normal?

    2. There is a kick when you put it in drive, much like when a train starts, is this normal or I need to replace an engine support? When the engine is cold also, there is a strong vibration when you slowly accelerate. When the engine is hot it hardly vibrates

    3. I need to replace speedo cable, I read in another forum that you just remove the clips and use a universal speedo cable and re-attach the clips since the part is not manufactured anymore and hard to find. Has anyone done this already?

    4. Is it okay to have the headlights cleaned? I'm afraid the glass might break if they open it.

    5. How many amps is the alternator have? I believe I still have the stock one. If I want a higher ampere, where could I find one?

    6. Is it safe to have it engine washed? The previous owner never had it washed. Its a K-Jetronic engine

    7. On my way to out of town yesterday, my oil indicator light up and alarmed when I was slowing down, I revved it up and it was gone. It happened 3 times. I'm not sure if its because I ran an average of 3.2K RPM (my speedo is busted) for 25 kms straight on the highway. I checked the oil before we left and it was max level. I just check it this morning and its still the same. Also I'm also hearing an revving RC toy sound when I rev up beyond 3k rpm

Can I assume that the oil indicator is also the check engine light (CEL)? Thanks!

As its an Auto, I reckon you need to top up the transmission level. Dextron 3 oil. Dipstick is a red stick on the transmission.I reckon half a litre and you would notice a difference.

Check the two oil sensors and see if they are leaking, especially past the electrical connector.
Check the dipstick has a plastic tube about 40mm long between the stick and the tube. If this is missing, the oil level will show about a litre to .5L under. This will make the engine light come on and also the buzzer.

I wouldnt wash that engine mate, possible big issues created right there.

I stock speedo cables and sealed beam headlights and would post em to you, but you probably can graft the end of the speedo onto a generic cable.

Good Luck with the Golf, thay are great cars. Its hard enough getting bits for a Mk2 in a far flung colony like Australia, cant imagine it being very easy in Manila.

Thanks a lot mate! Will check it. I look forward to the speedo cables and sealed beam headlights. Yeah I was told not to have it washed, but there are some shops here that offer waterless detailing, I wanted to check for leaks bec I don't see any flowing on the pavement, but the engine block has. I checked the dipstick before I left and the oil was a little above the max, then a couple of hours after I reached my destination, I checked it again and its still the same level. On my home, I didn't encounter it again, although I was running slower, just below 3K rpm
