    The Jetta Cur..thread

driving along today(barefoot) and i feel this hot gob of water drop onto my clutch foot.. scared the crud out of me.. its continued to drip down(only every minute or two).. its also coming down on the passenger side.. it looks and smells(no smell) like water...

i figured it would be the aircon.. altho i dont have aircon.. and its off anyway.. i have it off and set to the demister on the dials.. i havent turned anything on in the dash except the radio?? what else is up that has water?

im gonna have a good look tomorrow for someone that can play with the fuel injection and give it a general look-over.. its lacking in performance big-time! hopefully once the injection has been played with, it'll go like it should..

the intermittent "no acceleration" thing is still happening..(not as much since it put some fuel and spitfire stuff in tho..) its well annoying.. i look like ive never driven a manual before when it happens.. usually in second gear. (this still occurs after driving for well over 20mins.. so it isnt a temp thing)

The water in the cabin could be the heater matrix dying a death. Could be, as the car has been sitting around.

Bypassing the heater will fix it for now, but replacing the matrix would be the GO for winter.

We need more details on the no acelleration thing, could be leads?? or damp in the dissy?

You need premium petrol and no additives.

if the hot water is coolant, its a heater prob. think the dash has to come out to replace it, or you could clamp the hoses off in the engine bay (but youd have no heat (((doubt youd use it much anyway)))).

yeh.. i put 98 octane through her yesterday.. with some of that injector cleaner stuff...

i have no heat.. so i wont miss it. which hoses do i clamp?

the "jittering" is like when ya try taking off from a stationary position and dont accelerated enough.. AND putting the clutch in whilst accelerating (in the one instance)
a guy at work reakons there'd be heaps of buildup in the engine or injectors that wouldnt be letting a nice spray of petrol through...

as i said, i'll have to have perry or someone that specialises in injection to diagnose it, as i am very inexperienced in the way cars work. i know how to turn em on and drive em.. thats about it

what would i be looking for in the dizzy? (probably one of the only things other than the engine i could locate)

ps: whats a matrix? is that the aircon system/computer ?

have you ckecked you alternator's charging by the way? make sure it is, otherwise you'll have more probs soon...

when i drove your car last year i didnt think it was that slow... compared with petes stock digifant 1.8 it went comparably and your jetta is heavier i suppose....

make sure you always put premium in it as it'll run much better on it than normal ULP.

if you want to bring it up here (with a case of beer) on friday i might have time to look at it - we can start with timing etc, mike has some k-jet docs we might be able to work out whats happening...

    up to you

There are 2 hoses, one goes into the firewall, the other comes out of it. They are close to the coolant bottle. Since you're going to bypass it so doesn't matter which one is IN/OUT, just disconnect them, go to hardware shop and get some tube to join them together.

Matrix means heater matrix, or heater core, which is a small radiator for hot coolant to flow to generate hot air, yours is blocked or leaking which give you hot footbath, that's why you have to bypass it.

Do not clamp the hoses off!

    You must join them together.

    Unhappy

sheesh.. took her for a spin today.. after 10mins.. the steam began to come up through the dash n shiz... not coo.. looks like its worse.. the liquid was actually like a trickle instead of the intermittent drop onto the clutch.. and i could hear a hissing/squeeky sorta sound (similar to when ya turn the coolant lid a bit and the pressure leaks out.
i put a bit more water in and came straight back home.. was getting toooooo hot..
i put another half a tank in of premium and the rest of the injector cleaner in.. didnt get a blank spot on the way home.. altho it was a short trip..

will leave her till friday and just go straight to the boys house.

i suspect 2 cartons will be needed
