    Jarred's Mk 2 GTI & silly questions.

I figured I'd start this thread, to document all the little things I'll be doing to my mk 2 GTI, and also to contain all my silly questions to a single thread.

I've always thought mk 2's are pretty cool, and in particular, Jon's was pretty cool, and pretty nicely set up for DD duties. So when the opourtunity came up, I jumped. It's nice to step into something a bit better suited to DD than, say, a slammed mk 1 diesel.

I'm pretty excited about it, and love driving it. And love the fact that it's actually a GTI.

    Some pics:

It is 18 years old, so it does need a bit of love.

    -Get it roadworthy.
    -Fix the hunting idle.
    -Clutch pedal is sticky.
    -Throttle is skicky and heavy.
    -Gear linkages need attention.
-Brakes (maybe, after the brakes on the mk 1, these feel kinda average)

So I'll also do a service on it. plugs, filters and fluids. I'll do the Tbelt if it needs it.

Any advice before I dive in? Any other mk 2 things that I should look at?

I've read that to fix the idle, the ISV needs to be cleaned out, and the vaccum hoses should be replaced? I'll probably also pull the throttle body and clean the up too.

    Thanks!

    Jarred

Safe to say with what we've seen with Jarred's ex-Mk1, he'll have this one sitting pretty low in no time.

    Some tips from my mkii engine;

Idle screw o-ring may need replacing.

Isv, I have no luck cleaning mine yet.

Blue temp sensor/ oxy sensor for peace of mind.

    test your injectors for leaking.

Apart from that, nice car and hope it treats you well!

LOL you guys, obsessed with lowness!! Its already sitting nice for a DD, can bearly see the top of the tyres anyway!!

Looks good Jarred, dito the BTS mikinoz, that would be the first thing to replace if your idle is hunting like that, my Corrado used to do it, the heat seemed to affect them.

Apart from that i reckon you're on the right track from you what you said mate, flush that rad out and put some genuine G12+ in it for good measure.

Paint the wheel centres black and tint those rear lights red!!

Back end looks a bit untidy. De-wiper and de-sticker perhaps?
    After RWC, of course.
Looks like a damn clean MK2.

    hunting

on the hunting, it maybe the MAF is worn out but on ours the idle cut off plug was buggered. Just unplug it off the back of the throttle body and check it out.

Also make sure the oil breather on the rocker cover has a good seal.
