Now it's time to get some more power out of it, like a real GTI should have. The Aussie and Japanese MK2's had low pollution heads with smaller intake valves compared to the European MK2's. They have at least 15 hp more than our engines.
A 2 litre from a MK3 goes straight in and is a noticeable improvement for only a couple of hundred dollars. Use the GTI head from your motor with a 2 litre head gasket. You'll only get another 5 hp but there's a big improvement in torque which lets you eat the hills (or carry 4 mates without noticing the extra weight).
