What about other cars? Would a 2door 16v be eligible or not because a 8v 4door version was sold here and mk3 GTI's etc.

So lets say if i fork out 10k to get the license and get the car inspected does that mean anyone can import corrados with whatever engine or year? What if you want to import modified cars under this scheme?

as far as i can remember yes if you pay the money and have a car ready to sacrifice if need be for the inspection then anyone forever more can import corrados without restriction. and i think modified cars are fine but again its been at least a year since i investigated the ins and outs.

no golfs are eligible because they were sold here and a 2dr 16v is not different enough to a 5dr 8v aussie delivered as far as the gov't is concerned. unenlightened pricks

Why don't we (petrol heads for everywhere) do something to change the rules. Like the hippies and old people do.

I love the Jetta Coupe. I had an 87 Jetta 4 door which was cool. It got rear ended savagely.

Corrados are on the SEVS list and are eligable for import.

A workshop has to front up the money ($10k) to become the RAWS workshop to comply just corrados. I believe it is 10k per year, per kind of car, so unless you are bringing 10 cars, its not worth it.

Get 10 people willing to put down a 2k deposit each of whom can get a Corrado ready to travel and I`ll become the RAWS workshop.

The only hope we have is to lobby the Govt to reinstate the 15 year rule, so that enthusiasts such as us can bring in cars that are no threat to the aussie car industry and were never sold here.

That said, that rule was done away with to stop imports of Jap supercars (which it hasnt done) so good luck changing it.

That said, if we all write to out MP, maybe the new Govt will consider it, especially if we emphasise the small engined, fuel efficien vehicles we want to bring

Thanks for all the info but it sounds like for now it will be more hassle than its worth. I read through alot of the government websites for their rules and regs. and it sounds like i cant even bring the car in and let it sit in my garage! It needs to have full permission to even get off the boat!

Owell.. plan B: Find near rust free aircooleds in Australia and send them to Canada
