I'm not sure on your first question there, i do know of other cars being imported with engine conversions and nothing being said, but surely to avoid any hassle just get him to register it as an 8V G60, or at least when you apply for import approval get the G60 engine number off him to put on the form and say its a Supercharged 8V. I reckon Steve White will know the answer to that one.
Mark Hammond in Brookvale knows G60's, and theres also Gavin (H100VW on here) who has rebuilt a few Superchargers in the UK. The charger ideally needs a rebuild every 50K miles with a standard pulley, or around 35K miles with a 68mm pulley.
You could bypass the charger, maybe even take it off and get it rebuilt so its all nice and fresh for when you're licensed to use it.
My Corrado was insured with Shannons, cost about $1100 fully comp, green slip is no different in price. A 3dr Golf will probably be cheaper as at least VW sold the 5dr version here.
