    I've checked out this one:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-266231731.htm

but it seems like its more effort then its worth with the major rust. I'd go for it if it was doable but im not sure.

Opinions on the suggestions so far?

How much would it be from tassie to sydney. Ill email him today about it.

This car is a steal. No rust issues at all and only a few minor dents. A blank canvas.

All depends what you are looking for, a car that is ready to go or a project?

Dunno how much transport would be, but it would be far less than importing one.

im not so worried about it being ready to go as i;ve got the 5 door mk2 at the moment. the only issue is i dont have a garage at the moment and so i'd have to get it going in the short term as i cant have it sitting on the lawn as these cars are meant to be driven not garaged.

If it goes ahead ill be selling the 5 door to either fund it or move it on for space.

I don't know how much is left to do on it. This is how it stands as of Nov 09:

As for transport i found an old email quote from CEVA (I was looking at buying it and last year) and it would have cost me $1500 to get it to the Gold Coast. So to Sydney you'd be looking at around $1000. Only problem is that the car would have to be driveable.

Does look nice and probably goes about the same too.

    Or pistonheads.com classifieds.

that oak green one is damn fine, pricey for an import which will include all the fees, hopefully the tassie guy will contact me, it seems like the most logical option.

I woudn't be buying sight unseen as you can get heaps of issues.
I searched for about a week and got mine, just need to get it registered now.

You can get some with big bumpers- mine did (but it was an add on)
16v engine shouldn't matter as long as it's on the V5 (Rego papers)

Try Edition38- They have a few on there for sale. If anything, I'd suggest saving up and going over there. You need to get it in your name and a copy of your passport pages and a few other things before you can send it off to the Aus Govt for import approval.

Also be aware that most will be high mileage- mine was 95k Miles, which is very rare for a 1984 model (ie: 95k is about a 1995 ish mileage.)
Full service history and MoT's to back them up is also a bonus.

Stay away from chavved up golfs... ie: lexus lights slammed and boy racer body kits. These will have been flogged and treated like crap.

What's your email, I'll forward the emails I sent back and forth to them.

Oh, if you can get them to put a crappy low price on the docs... Hell yeah!

I ended up paying $35 in customs!

Admittedly the golf was a bit battered and bruised, and the rims with scratches didn't help, but on the purchase price. The lower the value, the less duty you will pay.

Well this is the email i got back:

    Hey mate still have it.
I'm not shure on prices to get it up to Syd. I got it from Brisbane about 2 years ago and it cost me $890 freight. They have different pricing for "runners" and "non runners" It's a non runner as it needs some fueling so it might be around the 1g mark to freight it up there.
Parts it needs to make it go are either twin carbs or a K-Ket or Digi 1 setup.
The easy one to do would be Carbs, and I know of a few twin carb manifolds in tas to suit.
Other things it needs to go are 16v Drive shafts, as the 8v ones are a tad smaller.
other things it needs are inner door pannels (they would have to come from UK or NZ)
They are very cheap in the U.K but postage is some times a bit pricey.
other than that its all there. would come with 17x7 inch advanti fin wheels.

I would love to finish it of, but I want to concentrate more on my GTI and get that finished rather than trying to do up 3 cars at once. and i'm going to live in Japan the end of this year so I need to shift some stuff...

    Cheers,
    Benny

Should i go for it. It's really tempting but i'd need to see about those parts.

    Opinions would be much appreciated
