    Mk1 sciroccos are all rusty and old, (and ugly) but Mk2 Roccos are cheap at the moment in the uk, They`ll all be gone in a few years and whats left will be worth big $$s.

    Mk1 GTI would have to be a minter to make sense, an easier local answer would be to build up a nice Aussie shell. Or buy my one.

    There should be plenty of Mk2 2 door in UK for peanuts. Lots of them would be ok for rust too, as there were so many. Most rusty ones are scrapped by now.

    It is probably only worth bringing one that you really want.

    Also heaps of Poms, sell their dubs, then move here and expect to buy a replacement. I reckon we should hit up UK based dub forums and tell any prospective immigrants to bring their cars with em.

    It still costs $2500 to bring a car from NZ to here. Its the loading and unloading that costs you, once its on a ship it costs the same

    Might as well get a UK one as there is more choice.

    Whoever said bring in a LHD one is crazy. It`d cost thyousands to get it converted once it got here and it would be hard to find the parts.

    why would it be hard if you had a complete RHD set up (in form of a shell)

    There were under 300 MK2s sold here and they are thin on the ground.

    You need a very complete one as a donor and then there is one less.

    Youd need dash out, heater boxes, out of both cars, pedal boxes, steering colum, rack, dash and all aussie ones are cracked, wiring loom and heaps of other stuff.

    Then you have to get it all back together, working and tight like the factory.

    Then engineering etc.

    Or just get a RHD one and drive it.
    They are so common in the UK and were cheap to maintain, so a decent one would not be hard to find.

    I bought a 1987 D reg 2 Door Mk2 from the wreckers for 40quid back in 2000. There would be heaps out there.

    Corrados are personal import only as they are post 1989. Write to your MP, I have. Bring back the 15 year rule on a sliding scale.

    oh yea I forgot about engineering. Actually that was pretty much what i was expecting. although, being me I was thinking more towards a mk 1 than 2 ie hello caddy! Just something I can keep in mind for the future when I win the lottery

    Hi

    I shipped my 16v Audi 80 over here in 2005,

    It cost £1600 pounds shipping ($3500approx)
    £330 customs charges in the uk ($720 approx)
    £88 misc charges ($190approx)

    Once landed I had to pay $440 for customs/unloading etc
    $500 for steam cleaning,

    Then I have spent thousands getting it licenced...but thats another story.

    So all up it has cost me $5350 just to get it to Australia,

    I would say to get a nice 3 door GTi you will need to spend at least £1000($2200), for one without monster miles or rust or doesnt need lots of tlc,

    To buy a nice clean mk2 and ship it, get it licensed,insurance etc etc I think you will be looking close to $10000

    You can get them really cheap in the Uk, I have just bought a 88 3door GTI in the UK to take to bits and ship parts back here (dash,carpets etc)when I go home in June for £100 ($220) but it has done high mileage and there is rust,

    As for the letters
    A=83-84
    B=84-85
    C=85-86
    D=86-87
    E=88-89
    F=89-90

    I would look for a E reg one, as these have the one piece windows, are digi etc

    Oh be aware the golfs you can ship will be pre 90 spec, so most of the electrical stuff is different to Australian cars as these were all 90 spec cars, I have found it makes getting parts in this country hard, all electrical items (headlamp swith/mfa stalk etc) I have replaced on my car have had to come from the UK

    Hope that helps

    RHD 3door mk2's were sold new in Japan too, A few have been imported here.
    Check out some of the Jap car auction sites or try a VAG forum over there.
    They do have cold winters though so rust might be an issue.

    Haha the mk1 Scirocco is ugly....?
