    help suspension upgrade

hey guys with all the trouble lately with my suspension i have been thinking to just go about upgrading. My car is a bit too floppy and droppy around corners (best way to describe it). I want to tighten up the ride a bit more make it sharper.

Can you guys give me ideas and feed back of the stuff you guys have had done to your Mk2's and price ranges ?

I am thinking of doing new springs allround and new shocks but i am also open to suggestions.

    Price range?
Could have a nice set of slightly lowered konis or bilsteins for about, 1.5k with springs.

Adjustables are more expensive and ride+height adjustables more-so again.

I'd highly reccomend a rear ARB (anti roll bar/sway bar some like to call them), would be about $500 once you had it fitted.

Also Poly suspension mounts are a relatively cheap and easy upgrade, think my kit cost about $120.

Depends how well you want it to handle vs. ride comfort. The more you pay can often lead to a nicer ride plus better handling, but when on a tight budget is more of a trade off.

well my car now is pretty much standard but it has been lowered a little at back and is suffering from a heavy load in the back and the suspension is really soft at rear and the whole car just bounces around on speed bumps.

Over speed bumps the rear rubs.

so im looking to make the car handle like new i just really want a refresh of the suspension. I don't have big $$ to spend but dont want to end up with rubbish .

Then maybe stick with some standard type shocks from 'Pedders' for example, maybe some lowering springs such as kingsprings. And maybe some Poly bushes.

If you are on a tight budget, and you arent worried about ride height, just get some Bilstein or Koni shocks. I wouldnt go with pedders or king springs (sorry... no offence intended, just an opinion) because they arent TUV approved. My Koni Yellows and H&Rs cost about 2K fitted, and I doubt you could get much for too much less... Maybe budget for 1500 minimum... For proper TUV approved stuff. Just a set of shocks could cost as little as 600 bucks + fitting. If you are going to do something, do it right. Crazy not too. It may cost more in the long run...

With stock suspension, the II handles pretty well (at least the early lightweight ones did. Never driven a newer fat one in anger), so maybe just the shocks for the moment?

If youve got the money might was well do the springs while your at it. Saves doing them twice. Just any plain rear shocks should cost $200-250 for a pair so im guessing the fronts should be around that or close to the $300.

My vote is to buy a good set of springs and shocks and spend a weekend with the car and do it yourself to save on the labour costs.
