I wouldn't expect any old shop to carry a VW compatible relay.

I'll pull the Haynes later and give you some more things to look at. I suspect something a bit harder. Are you any good with a multimeter? Do you have one?

Im going with its the stalk, can you explain what you have done and the syptoms again,

have you fiddled with the wiring? there are 4 wires from memory.

    if you have eliminated,

1 - wiring (check resistance from wiper motor end to the stalk plug end)

    2 - relay

then it may be your stalk.

Having looked at the wiring diagram. I'd be looking at the stalk too now. Assuming you don't have one too try in there. You could check the stalk out to prove it is faulty.

With the stalk in the OFF position, you need to check for continuity from the green/black wire at the motor, to pin 6 at the relay base on the fusebox. These are marked if you look closely.

With the ignition switch on, make sure you have power on the black/grey wire at the motor.

I think as well that pin 6 at the relay should have power there with the motor running. You'll only get the wipers to run on the fast speed, with the relay removed.

Have a look at those 3 and let me know what you see.

    Gavin
