Earth maybe.
Hi guys, I've got a mk1 with a complete mk2 gti running gear conversion done (digifant injection). But I have a problem with it not wanting to idle and also not starting once its been warmed up. Never had a issue with it until I changed the clutch. If anyone has any knowledge with this kind of problem or if they could give me any ideas on how I could rectify this problem would be much appreciated. Cheers
Earth maybe.
Yes as Stanton says you may have forgotten to put the earth cable on the gearbox bolt back.
Thanks guys, I will have a look today and see if there is earth connected.
Well today I spent a couple of hours trouble shooting and found that earth from the gearbox is good but the earth strap from the rocker cover to the body got very warm after cracking a few timesand also drained all the fuel out and replaced it with some new stuff. as soon as I cracked it started first kick but died in a couple of seconds, pulled out the plugs and noticed they are a little wetter than usual. So my guess now is that its over fueling? Because as soon as the plugs dry up it wants to run.
Try to unplug the fifth injector (it's the blue plug on the passenger side of the manifold)and see how it turns on then. My mom's mk2 was doing this same thing until we unplugged it, then it started fine every time. If it's faulty it can cause flooding. If the ground is getting warm it sounds like you need to upgrade your ground cables, should really be done anyway if you haven't already.
Come on Peter, still haven't started it yet?haha need a hand bro?

Take a plug out and start it on 3 cylinders
Makes the engine spin faster and you can see how much fuel is getting sprayed into the cylinder.
Done that lots of times in the old days.
When it runs, put the plug back in and it may then start and run on 4!

It starts once I disconnect the fuel pump but stops after sometime, I've noticed there is a couple of brown wires that are together with the earth strap on the rocker cove, put a light tester on the two wires and one has power. So I then disconnect the two wires and tried starting but nothing, put the wire on that has power back on and it wants to fire up. This has really confused me. I think I will need to trace Back all of the wires that go to the ecu and the dizzy and take all the condue and tape off to see whats going on. I'm feed up ATM and think I might put a set of twin webers on her.
