    Nice BMW.

RWD on a Golf is possible but a big job. Not sure that it's worth it when a strong 20v turbo can run rings around worked WRX's.

Not sure why everyone keeps going on about the 20v. He's said money isn't an issue and power is.

R32/VR6 turbo..... no replacement for displacement.

PS. Most stock 20v turbos are 150hp the 185-225 are in the audis and rarer but not unattainable.

At the end of the day a 20v turbo will never match a much bigger motor once its also turbo'ed.

The 6 cylinders also weigh a lot more. Not what you want when you prefer rear wheel drive.

Keep it light and keep it nimble.

If he'd asked for a light and moderately powerful car then 20v would be the choice.
Not trying to be a smart a55, but he's asking for outright power.
Lots of Vr6 turbo'd mk2s kicking around the rest of the world, mustn't be 'that' heavy.

    ^^Indeed!
If money isn't an issue and you want rear wheel drive, why dont you just get an E46 M3? Or turbo a 1 series 135i if you still want a hatch??
I'm guessing you like the mk2 Golf because of its handling and relatively light weight? Well, a VR6/R32 turbo conversion is all well and good for insane power, but you will destroy the nimble feel of the mk2 chassis that you liked in the beginning, thus making the project a bit self defeating. Plus, all that power in a front driver and the car will be all over the place to drive. My mk2 1.8t has 250hp at the front wheels with a LSD and even that is a real handful!
Buy an R32, turbo it and be done with it!!??

    Just my 2c

Hey mate i drive a mk2 vr6 daily , the motor is pretty much stock. its pretty much exactly the same as driving a mk3 vr6 everyday which i also have, when you do the conversion properly into a mk2 you have all mk3 underpinnings and a mk2 shell. the car doesnt become some nose heavy monster, it becomes the same as the mk3 vr6. yes its heavier and it might not turn in as well but you wouldnt notice that in 99% of your daily driving, in a race car you would. but i love the way the vr6 pulls from down low and makes the car easy to drive. I think ppl are more surprised to hear the vr6 noise from such a small car then the sound of another turbo car. 1.8t or vr6 they are both good conversions hp is really only limited buy your wallet.
