When I had my Golf 2, the valves were too new to fail. Do they leak or something?

I'm a believer in if it's working OK juust leave it as it's there for a reason. I actually fitted the valves myself.

maby due to our naff northern hemisphere climate we use are heating that bit more? but yes the bypass valves have a tendency to stop working! i dont know if they just rott or block up but quite a few people have said you cannot clean them out? they just fail with age?

The heater is used whenever the engine is running. There is no tap like on a Golf 1.

As we only had a few dozen of them here most Aussies think that they are the same as Golf 1s.

    Thumbs up

foam flying through the vents but no steam? Good chance is that the foam has deteriorated off the flappy door bits leaving great holes exposed for the hot air to escape. Its not necessary to replace the heater core if this is the case, just dismantle the lower part of your dash and pull the vent off the front of the heater box. once this is done go about patching up the foamless doors with ur choice of race-tape or replacement foam. Before reassembling check both ur heat sliders to see that nothing is jammed and voila! problem fixed. The worst part is disassembling it the first time, it is a little tight but you will get there with persistance. Can be done in under an hour easy
