hi mate just latley my car is back firing when i go through the gears when i give it acceleration the injectores have been serviced , a new k/n filter with the inside taken out of the airbox , any suggestions, cheers
I might be totally wrong here but if your filter is sucking up more air it might be causing the car (ECU) to run rich and therefore back firing, dunno, some of the more technical guys here will help im sure![]()

yeah thats what i was thinking to i might put the stock filter back in and wait till i get a free flow exhaust system
usually with backfiring the problem lies with the spark plugs or leads. did it start to happen recently? when were the last time they were changed?
can i buy spark plugs that have been set for this model ?i have not done leads for two years and i cant find any record in my paper work,i should change them i reckon
Hey dubsweeper, I'm from perth
out of interest which mechanic do you normally use?
de
joe at golfwagen has done most recent stuff like gearbox and injectors.
Some AFMs (air flow meters) don't like aftermarket filters.
Not familiar with the AFM on the Bosch system in the mk2, but im pretty shure they are a bit like the nissan Vane type ones.
you can pop the black top off them and add a bit more tension to the spring to compensate for the increased airflow.
Blugs and points will cause intermitant firing thru the rev range.
if its back firing between shifts etc, its more than likely a fuel/Air delivery problem, steming from the AFM
Try you old filter set up and see if it stops doing it first tho.
Cheers, Benny
