    Golf mk2 dilemma

    Hi guys
I have a1989 golf mk2 Wolfsburg edition. Only 75,000 genuine miles on the clock, goes really well, original motor etc ,lovely condition inside and out. My father wants me to ditch this car for his 13yr old Holden Vectra, under a lot of pressure to do so. What should I do?

    OK, serious answer.

You already know what you want to do otherwise you wouldn't have posted on a VW forum where we all love Golfs.

Now all you need to do is convince your dad so start by telling him it's your decision, not your dads. If he wants to get rid of his Vectra then he sells it instead of forcing you to have it.

The Golf won't depreciate, parts are easily available and there is a strong community of like minded individuals always willing to give help and advice.

If the Golf breaks down it's easy for you to learn how to fix it so your mechanical knowledge improves. If the Vectra breaks down you have to take it to a mechanic because it's so complex to fix. That means more money going into someone elses pockets.

If you sell the Vectra there's more money in your dad's pocket too.

    KEEP THE GOLF.

    And post some pictures.

And bring it to the German Auto Display so we can all check it out and tell you how great it is and not to get rid of it..

    Cheers

    Paul

    Phew!
That's exactly what I wanted to hear, very reassuring advice.
I definitely won't get rid of the old girl now, never really wanted to as you so wisely pointed out. I've just had so many others around me
telling me I must be mad to hold on to such an old car.
I appreciate your sound advice very much, thank you.
I'll post some pics this week and hopefully get to the German Auto Display as well.

    Cheers

A 13 yr old vectra might have a better heating/cooling system compared to a mk2.
It might even have better fuel econony- but I know what I'd rather have!

Sounds like your mk2 is a bit special too.

My heater works great and I average 6.6 litres. Try and beat that with your boring, souless 13 year old Vectra.

My heater works great as well and I've always been surprised how long a full tank of fuel lasts.
