If its a personal import it needs high level brake light and child restraint points. It will have no compliance plate and could have come in to the country anytime as a personal import.

So you're saying if it's an Australian one it doesn't need a high level brake light, but a private import does?

Mine is compliance plated (1992) and has no high level brake light, but 3 child restraint points...

Just found out my master cylinder needs replacing This after I just replaced the rear brake calipers ($450), and spent $350 in the auto electrician getting the wiring dramas sorted out...

So at the moment all I have is a pretty (and expensive) paperweight...

    Just having a cry...

Sad, but true in my experience.

The child restraint point rules are more severe for imports too.

Yes, all cars since around '75 must have them.

    Yep true...
All imports reguardless of age need high mounts as far as im aware..
used to fit em for a place i worked for ages ago that did imports

Johns wouldnt have one if it came in in 92...rules weren't as tough then.
Mine doesnt run a hgh mount or child restraints...unsure what year it came into Oz though. All i know is it was a private import from the UK.

as far as i know from a chat with a w@nker when my MK2 was defected he said it had to have a high mount on it reguardless.... That was a personal import when it came into the country...
i wired one up, and took it off after it was cleared, lol....ugly things.
but, different states may have different rules. only ones i know most about are Jap imports (rice mobiles)...and if its imported from Japan (any car) it must meet some ADR rules depending on model... anything built after 1988 has to be FULLY complied tho...
eg side intrusion bars (in doors) New windscreen (adr approved)also applies to any import personal or otherwise) high mount brake light, Dimmer switch on instrument cluster, child restraint points, filler noz for unleaded vehicles (all are in japan but ADR states it must have the reduced size opening)...
    blah blah blah...

but my only understanding of personal imports eg.... you goto that country and have it in your name then bring it over... is that it has to have rear brake light high mount, child restraints and ADR aproved windscreen....
only know tha because of a person i know who came over to VIC from the UK with an rs2000 escort (76 mod)

See Matt (Corrado G60) as he has just done it.

I am only talking about personal imports that have been owned for one year overseas.
