    gearbox woes

    Hi all
am having a very strange problem with my gearbox.

When I rev the car out, say above 5500rpm it becomes very difficult to select gears, and sometimes I am unable to select gears at all after some hard accelleration to above around 5500rpm.

Yesterday I reved out second gear then had a lot of difficulty selecting 3rd then I had to come to a rest for an intersection and I was stranded and unable to select any gears from neutral.

I turned the car off and it easily slipped into any gear. Was able to limp off in 2nd after starting the car in gear. Then it miraculously came good, I have been having to drive around at low revs for the last couple of weeks now.

I have replaced the clutch cable, and that hasn't cured the problem.
I think it may be clutch throw bearing or a presure plate issue? Any ideas or advice?

I was having similar problems because of miss aligned gear shift and that big orange rubber that the gear shift shafts passes through, but it was hard to get it in throught the rev range.

Worth a check anyway although im sure youve already checked.

yes it's possible but I'm not sure why it happens more so at high revs??
Unless the engine/box mounts are so shot that it compounds the problem.

I reckon rear engine mount behind the gearbox.

Reach in and try and lift the back of the gearbox by the support bar. If it moves heaps its the mount.

Could also be the front mount. Get someone who can drive to hold the car on the clutch, just as if you are about to start off on a hill. If the engine raises heaps, its a mount issue.

If its the mounts it will effect your gearbox.

I smell pressure plate mate!!! Especially with what you say. Hot engine poor selection. Let it cool and select. Mate if you turn the vehicle off and it selects ok that really sounds like pressure plate finger weakness
Guys are right though poor mounts do cause dramas, make sure they are right but with what you say im smelling pressure fault
