    Gearbox code

Where do I find the gearbox code? I'm trying to work out what gearbox I have.

I've looked at the underside and the last 3 digits are 054. (I think)

    It's a 1984 8v GTI.

Underneath the box at the bottom of the bellhousing is a flat plate. What are the first 3 digits??

9AO or 9OA**045 from memory. It's too low to see!

9A is close ratio with tall final drive & 100mm CVs. Small input shaft (22mm) and should use the red speedo gear on the cable.

    Ratios are

    3.46 / 2.12 / 1.44 / 1.13 / 0.89 with a FDR of 3.67

Depends on how you want to drive the car.

For track use you'd want a lower diff ratio, for highway use that's a great box.
