I'm looking into replacements for g60's unless I can find a place to service it regurlary. New ones look like 1600 euro and I've heard about these BBM screw compressor, are they any good, are they a direct replacement?

It looks like Peter Shelley at Canberra VW centre has just installed a Toyota supercharger on his G60 Corrado. Might be a good idea to give him a call and ask some questions.

It will be a great deal easier to stick with the G60, if it is rebuildable now, you can keep it that way. Strip the G60 before blowing any money on replacements. I'll do that for free, just send it to me and I'll have it apart in half an hour and tell you what's what.
Gavin
I agree with Gavin.
Roots style chargers(toyota) are only 50% efficient.
G-Laders are 60% efficient.
If you fitted a toyota charger you'd be going backwards.
Screw compressors are 80% efficient, but have heard a few "rumours" about unreliability.
mk2 GTi 16v
Corrado G60
steer clear of G60's i would say lol...tho i know that isnt very helpful
Let Gavin have a look at it, and Carl is correct, stick with a G60. I can help you locate one in the uk if need be. second hand ones are between 300-400 pounds (plus shipping)
Bahn Brenner chargers are great, wicked sound (very loud) and great power. I havent heard of them blowing up
All good advice thanks. When I get it back tomorrow I'll pull it off and take a look. I wanna make it all work, just not sure about reliability, and screw compressors are twice weblogs from what I've read.
G60Jay on this site is also quite knowledgeable with the G60's. I am pretty sure that he is currently over in the UK at the moment. If you need any bits sent over perhaps he can help.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it
G60s are fine as long as you keep them serviced and you don't thrash the thing when the oil temp is low (high pressure), wait till the oil is up to 90 degrees before giving it a hard time, thats all you need to do with them, there are plenty of G60s still running in the US/UK/Europe. You need to use the right parts when they're rebuilt, the OE apex strips and bearings, all of which you can source through G-Werks. As i said before Pete Shelly (aprr32 on here who has my old Corrado) has put a Toyota Charger on the Corrado, when i sold him the car i sold a spare charger that is good for a rebuild with it, so maybe give him a shout and see if he wants to sell it? Also G60JAY has been rebuilding his own chargers, (he's running a 2.0l 16VG60 in his Mk2) i've seen the parts that he's got hold of to rebuild them with so it maybe worth giving him a shout too, he's a very helpful chap!
Also, a handy forum or 2 for G60s;
