Few mk2 gti problems, need help.

Hi guys, need a hand with some problems im having with my 8v 1990 gti.

First is the gear box, there is a grinding sound that can be heard when the car is in reverse. I think it might be this one part but I dont know what its called, its a fat ring/bearing with teath on the inside of it .
Im not even sure that that is the problem. Can anyone shed some light on the issue?

Another thing is im missing 2 plugs for the coolant sensors. The ones I am missing are circled below in green and blue and the sensor circled in blue is also missing but there is a brown wire hanging off it:

I have no idea where they have gone, they wernt on the car when I bought the car and they’re nowhere to be seen in the engine bay. Any ideas?

It also needs a new master break cylinder, breaks are spongy, I was about to buy one but I had a look at mine just to make sure. The master cylinder on mine has only the port on the left of it open and connected; the other ones are closed off. The one I was going to buy had all 4 ports open. Can someone shed some light on this? Why does mine only have the 2 ports open on one side?

Also, wheres a good place, in Melbourne, that knows about mk2's?
That’s all I can think of at the moment.

    Thanks

Replacement master cylinders have 4 ports as they are designed to fit loadsof different vehicles, you just blank off the ones you don't need.

I reckon it should have at least 2 pipes fitted, one for the front brakes and one for the back.

The missing plugs I am not so sure about. I wonder if it had a different engine fitted from an earlier car that has a different top hose??

Blue one goes to the ECU and black is for the temp gauge. If the car runs and heats up they must be connected to something.

The others are oil temp, green black wire and oil pressure switches with yellow and blue wires.

The plastic outlet you have on the front of the block is the later superceeded version. It fits lots of vehicles, so has different sensors blocked off depending on application.

Lots of the gearbox break the reverse idler gear. They get noiser and noiser and eventually refuse to go backwards. I have some gearboxes if required.
