    Exhaust TOO loud!

    Hey,

    i own a Mk2 Gti 1990 8v.

Wasnt loud enough so i removed the mid muffler awhile back and replaced it with a straight pipe. Still ran stock pipes other then the mid muffler removed.

So yesterday i figured i wanted more sound and went to a local exhaust place and got him to cut the rear muffler and welded a straight pipe to the tips.

So now it runs the front muffler, Straight pipes to tip.

So now i want it to be a little quieter just at idle and going through traffic but really open up when i hit it. Any suggestions on what i do?

    Thanks

There a defect arent they? Just wondering whether adding a rear muffler will lose a fair percentage of the sound

i got the front muffler (or cat) cut out, and put straight through.
so running mid and rear muffler. they did it for $100
and it did feel very slightly more powerful.... every little bit counts

car is driven daily, and no problems, has a nice burble down low. sounds heaps better than a stock 16v

So from the way you've explained it, you now have an exhaust which is just a CAT then straight through pipe.

In my experience with the 1.8 8V, good sounds is to have just a rear muffler (straight through one without baffles) and thats it.

Rear glass pack witha cat will also still sound very nice.

There are a few things to consider when using just one rear muffler. It has to be a good quality one that is well constructed internally. They are a bit heavier and cost a bit more but are worth it. The cheap and light weight ones made in China are noisy. If you use a good straight through muffler with the same length and width as the oem muffler it will sound nice as gldgti has pointed out.

It has the front exhaust but i cut out the mid muffler and rear muffler, Welded a straight pipe to a dump tip. Crazy sound. Way to much for around town, and even to much when you hit it. When i replaced the Mid muffler with a straight pipe i noticed the idle was louder and was louder at lower rpms. So im not sure whether putting a good mid muffler will keep it quiet at low rpm and then will open up when i hit it.
