Hey guys,
My engine oil is low on the dip-stick so i think i will need to top up. What oils are you using in your mk2's and what do you recommend? Also should i just top up or drain the old oil first?
Thanks for any help, Stef

I was told to use 15w40 in mine. It still leaks oil from what looks like the top of the block even though I have done the head.
Would 15w40 ever be too thin for an engine that's done 160,000?
I've found most oil leaks from the top of the engine are usually to do with the rocker cover gasket, some of the new silicone sealants work very well when applied to a new gasket I would think that as long as you change the oil at regular intervals 15w40 should be fine. If you find it's using a bit you could always add an oil conditioner like Nulon worn engine treatment, I've used it before on a car that was using around a litre per 5,000 k's between changes and much to my surprise it actually worked to reduce the consumption down to about 250ml per 5,000 k's, and the car seemed to run smoother as well.
