Drive shaft removal help

I am about to replace the outer CV boot as its torn open. I have managed to undo the large 30mm nut holding the drive shaft from the wheel side. Then I will be removing the inner bolts of the inner CV that bolt up to the trans flanges.

Q. Do I need to remove the ball joint to remove the drive shaft ?

Thats the second time I have torn CV boots using high pressure for cleaning

I usually undo the ball joint to get the cv out of the hub.

I then knock the joint off the shaft with a hammer, leaving the drive shaft connected to the gear box.

Admittedly it is a bit easier to work on when it has been removed completely.

Ok thanks, I thought I would be able to get away without touching the ball joint. I would have to mark the position of the ball joint as its slotted and set for the length of the shaft.

Mate undo the pinch bolt and you wont need to mark anything.
Easier than upsettin the camber. Messy stuff that CV grease absolutely of all things i hate it the most.

have you got a haynes manual mate?
just take them out completly, or just take it out the CV end and take the CV off and change the boot then replace, but it will still be connected to the diff so you'll be under the car the whole time.

Pinch bolt i refer to is the one that secures the balljoint pin to the strut. Mate its entirely up to you, also depends on how rusted the whole thing is, you can be brave and take the 3 bolts out but im sure you will upset your camber ( i would be checking it anyway) or like others say it is far easier in a vice for sure. Ive done all of mine on the car but been on a hoist though. On the ground means you are on your knees for the duration of the job.
